In California, any construction or remodeling project over $500 requires a licensed contractor through the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Iris Construction, License #1141139, is fully licensed and active with the CSLB as a General Building Contractor.

The CSLB is one of the most respected licensing boards in the country. To become licensed, contractors must pass a comprehensive written exam and demonstrate a minimum of four years of verified, relevant experience. CSLB license holders are also required to maintain at least $2,500 in operating capital and follow strict consumer protection standards.

California contractors are required to hold workers compensation insurance for employees and maintain liability insurance. Coverage starts at one million dollars for teams of five or fewer, with an additional one hundred thousand dollars per person above five, capped at five million.

California contractors are required to submit their fingerprints to the board, which are then checked against criminal records held by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) prior to obtaining a valid contracting license.
